Simy Nwankwo nets brace to help Crotone end winless run

Crotone’s terrible run of 7 consecutive defeats finally came to an end on Sunday afternoon when they defeated Torino by 4 goals to 2 in what is considered a massive upset.

Crotone are in severely dire straits, bottom of the log with little hope of escaping relegation, while Torino came in on a 6 game unbeaten run, off the back of a win away at Cagliari in their last game.

When it looked like Crotone would be falling to yet another defeat, up stepped Nigerian striker, Simeon Nwankwo who scored two goals to propel them to a 4-2 victory.

The ex-super eagles striker had been one of the very few positives of Crotone’s season so far, and he opened the scoring in this one, converting a penalty in the 27th minute to make it 1-0.

Torino drew level just before half time but Simy struck again in the 54th minute, notching his and Crotone’s 2nd goal to help the home side regain the lead with his 10th league goal of the season.

Simy Nwankwo was subbed off in the 75th minute, denied an opportunity to grab his hat trick, but Crotone did enough to make sure his efforts didn’t go to waste.

Simy Nwankwo’s 10 league goals is the most by any Crotone player, and it also helps him rank 11th on the Serie A goalscorers list.

Despite the win Crotone remain rooted to the bottom on 15 points in the league table and it will take a miracle and a whole lot more Simy Nwankwo goals to stop them from making an instant return to Serie B.
