Sergio Ramos and other Real Madrid players dropped from Spain’s Euro 2020 squad

For the first time in history, the Spanish national team will head into a tournament without any Real Madrid players in the squad.

Spanish national team coach, Luis Enrique released his 24-man list for the Euro 2020 set to kick off next month and there are no shortage of surprises.

Real Madrid center back and captain, Sergio Ramos is the most notable omission from the squad by Luis Enrique.

The former Barcelona manager gave injuries as the reason for dropping the Real Madrid star but the answer is not completely true.

Enrique had the allowance of selecting 26 players but he chose to call up 24, leaving two spots vacant. Meaning he really didn’t want any Real Madrid players around.

Injuries reduced Ramos to 25 appearances in all competitions this year but Enrique’s decision to invite Eric Garcia who has played just 8 times all season is what fuels the suspicion that he is anti-Madrid.

Other Real Madrid players that were snubbed include Nacho, Carvajal and Lucas Vasquez.

Below is the full squad players invited to the Spanish national team for the Euros.

Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Unai Simon, Robert Sanchez.
Defenders: Aymeric Laporte, Jordi Alba, Jose Gaya, Pau Torres, Eric Garcia, Diego Llorente, Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Llorente.
Midfielders: Sergio Busquets, Rodri, Pedri, Thiago, Koke, Fabian.
Forwards: Dani Olmo, Mikel Oyarzabal, Alvaro Morata, Gerard Moreno, Ferran Torres, Adama Traore, Pablo Sarabia.
